About Laminating Epoxy Resin

Laminating epoxy resin is a two-part adhesive system used primarily in the construction of composite materials, such as fiberglass laminates. When the resin and hardener components are combined, they chemically react to form a rigid, durable material that bonds strongly to reinforcement fabrics and structural substrates.

The main advantages of laminating epoxy resin are its excellent bonding properties, high strength, and resistance to moisture, chemicals, and temperature fluctuations. It is commonly used in applications like boat building, automotive repairs, and creating custom composites. Proper mixing ratios and thorough application are crucial for achieving the best results — ensuring the laminate delivers its full strength and durability potential.

Excellent Bonding

Outstanding adhesion to carbon fibre, fibreglass, Kevlar, wood, metals, and most structural substrates.

High Strength

Cured laminates exhibit superior tensile, flexural, and compressive strength for demanding structural applications.

Moisture & Chemical Resistance

Resistant to water ingress, chemicals, and temperature fluctuations — essential for marine and outdoor composite applications.

Boat Building

Preferred resin system for marine hull construction, deck lamination, and structural repairs in GRP and carbon composites.

Automotive Repairs

Widely used for composite panel repairs, body kit lamination, and custom automotive fabrication requiring precision and strength.

Custom Composites

Ideal for bespoke composite parts, tooling, jigs, and prototypes across industrial, aerospace, and creative applications.

Technical Properties

The medium-fast hardener provides a controlled working time suitable for carbon fibre lamination, epoxy coating, and surface sealing. The slow-cure hardener minimises exothermic heat during deep pours, preventing yellowing and bubble formation in thick sections. All systems cure to a clear, gloss finish with excellent mechanical properties.

Crystal Clear Finish

Non-yellowing, optically transparent cure — ideal for river tables, artwork, jewelry, and decorative castings.

High Bond Strength

Outstanding adhesion to carbon fibre, fibreglass, wood, and most substrates for structural and repair applications.

Two Cure Speeds

Choose medium-fast (50–60 min) for lamination work or slow cure (15–18 hr) for deep pour projects without overheating.

Frequently Asked Questions

Mix ratios vary by product. Our laminating kits are typically supplied in pre-measured sets for correct stoichiometry. Refer to the product datasheet for exact resin-to-hardener ratios, which are typically 2:1 or 3:1 by weight.

The slow-cure hardener is designed for deep pours up to 50mm in a single application. For deeper sections, multiple pours with adequate cooling time between each layer are recommended to prevent heat build-up.

Our clear epoxy resin is suitable for protected outdoor applications. For prolonged UV exposure, we recommend applying a UV-resistant topcoat or using our UV Stabilizing Agent additive for enhanced outdoor durability.
